Jobs vary from ski season jobs in the alps to summer season jobs in holiday resorts or campsites. Most of these jobs will offer free travel to and from resort, accommodation and a small living allowance. Saving it up won’t pay off your overdraft but you might just enjoy the season and not rack up any further debts. Want to get further away than Europe ? Companies like BUNAC and CCUSA offer work placements in hotels and national parks for up to a year in Canada and Australia – yes “paid” work placements which mean you don’t have to come home broke.

Thinking of working here, stacking some cash and then travelling during your gap year? This could be for you if you want to keep in touch with friends or family for some of your gap year. And working in the UK doesn’t have to mean working for a few months at your local supermarket (though financially that’s probably a good idea). If you want to discover other parts of your own country you can work for an adventure company like PGL or JCA and get free training to teach adventure activities to kids going on school trips. Most adventure centres are located somewhere rural or coastal with nice views and a cheap nightlife – another great way to save up some money!
